September 11, 2010

Last week's Saturday excursion was brief since RaeLene and I wanted to be back to watch the BYU-Air Force game, but we went with Nataly to the National Air and Space Museum for about an hour. Not only is it the 2nd most visited museum in the WORLD (2nd only to the Louvre), but it was also September 11th, a major tourist day in D.C. It was packed and we didn't have long so we didn't see much, but my favorite part was the stealth fighters--3 unmanned air crafts on display that I especially enjoyed. We want to go back.

That evening RaeLene and I wanted to walk up to the Pentagon memorial to meet up with Nataly and Cristina. We didn't really know where it was, but there were a few signs and we eventually saw a large memorial and started walking towards it...come to find out it was the Air Force memorial, which was cool, but the wrong one. Here's a picture of it that I stole from the internet. We followed a few more dark roads until we found the Pentagon. The memorial there consists of 184 benches with the name of a victim inscribed on the side. Each bench has a lighted reflecting pool underneath. They are organized by age order. There was one bench for a 3-year old girl who was on the hijacked flight. We also saw the wreath the Obama laid that morning. This picture is also stolen from the internet for your viewing pleasure.
