National Museum of the American Indian

Proud teacher moment:
Towards the end of the day the first graders sat in a circle and talked about something they were proud of today. One student said "I'm proud that Miss Garrett learned our names today." Sure, there are only 18 of them so it was easy, but still--they were proud of me. :)

Today on the way home from our first day of DC school RaeLene and I walked to the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. We spent about an hour viewing not even half of the museum artifacts. On our way to the metro we stopped at one of those hot dog stands on the side of the road and ate a polish sausage with chili cheese and onions. We were even asked where the metro is AND I knew the answer. I felt very urban chic.

This was the most amazing pieces of bead work that we saw in the museum. The names of all the American Indian tribes are beaded into the stripes in alphabetical order and the state abbreviations are the stars. The blue has some sort of pledge beaded into it. The beads are glass and the entire thing is luminescent.
